Broward County, FL Approves request to Formulate Comprehensive Regulations for Pill Mill Establishments
The County Commission approved a request to create a joint task force with the Broward League of Cities and other stakeholders to formulate comprehensive regulations for pill mill establishments. This action will allow for the Cities and County as well as other stakeholders to participate in creating regulations. Measures to be discussed could include a moratorium on the issuance of business tax receipts (formerly known as Occupational Licenses) for any business which dispenses prescription drugs; formulation of a specific definition of "pain clinic" and establishment of land development code regulations; ordinances prohibiting any new medical offices in certain zoning districts where other office uses are permitted; specifically prohibiting pain management clinics in certain areas; empowerment of staff to enforce newly-passed State legislation requiring registration and inspection of clinics which advertise pain management services; and, enforcement of more stringent parking requirements for new medical offices.
