Cocoa Beach, FL to Continue Public Hearing and Second Reading of Ordinance Regarding Registration and Maintenance of Properties in Foreclosure The City Council will consider Ordinance No. 20-2009 relating to the registration of properties in foreclosure, amending chapter 6, City Code, by creating a new article VII titled Registration and Maintenance of Properties in Foreclosure.
During the economic recession there has been a considerable spike in mortgage
foreclosures around the nation In many cases properties in foreclosure become vacant.
These properties can create a tremendous code enforcement challenge for cities as the
properties sometimes fall into neglect and become a public nuisance until the properties
go through the foreclosure process. Additionally during the foreclosure process the City
does not have a point of contact for the property under foreclosure because the last
known resident has vacated or abandoned the property and the mortgagee is based out of state.
