Polk County, FL to Hold Public Hearing for Ordinance Prohibiting Parking of Vehicles with Payloads Exceeding 2 Tons
The Commission will hold a public hearing to consider adoption of an ordinance amending Polk County Ordinance 86-35 "Polk County Parking Ordinance" to prohibit parking of vehicles with a payload capacity exceeding 2 tons on rights-of-way. (Suggested hearing date is February 19, 2019 at 1:30 p.m.) DESCRIPTION The proposed ordinance would amend the Polk County Parking Ordinance ("Parking Ordinance") to prohibit the parking of vehicles with a payload capacity exceeding 2 tons on rights-of-way. It would also amend the Parking Ordinance to allow enforcement by the Sheriff Office or Code Enforcement. Lastly, the proposed ordinance amends the penalty section of the Parking Ordinance to require a written warning for the first violation and then imposing increased fines for repeat violations, except for violations for parking in a designated "handicapped" parking space which requires a fine of $100 for all violations. RECOMMENDATION Set a public hearing on February 19, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. to consider adoption of an ordinance amending Polk County Ordinance 86-35 "Polk County Parking Ordinance" to prohibit parking of vehicles with a payload capacity exceeding 2 tons on rights-of-way.
